Description
Table ware by Wilhelm Wagenfeld in Fürstenberg Raspberry Red and Ivory porcelain.
12 large plates, 10 dessert plates (with slightly faded colour), 1 oblong plate, 2 vegetable bowls, 1 sauceboat, 1 tea set with sugar bowl, 4 cups and saucers.
This model 0689 is very similar to the model 639 designed by Wilhelm Wagenfeld (1900-1990) in 1934, inspired by the Bauhaus spirit.
Model 639 was awarded the Gold Medal at the Exposition Internationale in Paris in 1937. A table service from the 1930s that is both modern for its time and timeless, just as Wagenfeld intended.
It’s made of porcelain from the ever-famous Fürstenberg factory in Germany, elegant, unadorned, chic but not ostentatious. Fürstenberg has been synonymous with quality since 1747, and still is today. Material, function and design come together to create a harmonious unit.
Wagenfeld designed the handles for the lids and jugs in the shape of a disc, and linked them to the object with functional short handles of classic elegance. “Everything useful must be beautiful”.
The ivory porcelain is soberly decorated with a raspberry-red stripe and gold fillet, or with large agate-amatized gold flat tints on handles and knobs.
The combination of ivory, red and gold is very harmonious.
The shapes are pure, balanced, modern and singular. A chic, sober dinner service.
Everything is in good condition, except for the small plates with their patinated decoration.
