Description
Art Deco tea and coffee set by Marcel Goupy, edited by Rouard for 12 people.
This earthenware set has an irresistible turquoise, even celadon colour. The shapes are beautifully rounded, which particularly highlights the delicate material that is earthenware, here delicately treated in a thin thickness, a feat of craftsmanship. Marcel Goupy shows his passion for nature here with the frétel of the coffee pot and sugar bowl decorated with fruits and leaves. How modern the design of the cup handles is, placed horizontally, and very ergonomic too. Goupy’s design shows the interconnection with that of Jean Luce.
This rare set for twelve people includes a coffee pot, sugar bowl, milk or cream jug, six coffee cups and saucers, six tea cups and saucers, all marked Rouard, totalling 27 pieces.
One photo shows a document certifying that it was designed by Marcel Goupy.
The set was produced by the famous Parisian publisher Rouard.

Marcel GOUPY (1886–1954) was a watercolourist before developing a passion for ceramics and glass. A graduate of the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, his meeting with Georges (Géo) Rouard in 1909 proved decisive for his career. He began working with the gallery owner Rouard in 1914, providing drawings and models for glassware.
In 1919, he became the gallery’s chief decorator, then its artistic director in 1929 upon the death of Géo Rouard, until 1954 in the workshop of the ‘Cristallerie de la Paix’ store, located at 34-36 Avenue de l’Opéra in Paris.
This shop was taken over by Géo Rouard and became a distribution centre for avant-garde decorative creations after the 1914-1918 war.
Marcel Goupy’s works rubbed shoulders with those of prestigious names such as Delaherche, Decoeur, Mayodon and Lenoble for ceramics, Dunand for silverware, and René Lalique, Maurice Marinot, Henri Navarre, André Thuret and François Décorchemont for glassware.
